Joel Khalu

Joel has been actively involved with sport in Cairns for over 15 years.  After representing Cairns as a junior in Basketball, Cricket & Rugby Union, he made the decision to commit to basketball, with a goal of competing at high levels in the sport.

In 1998, he signed with the Cairns Marlins, where at the age of 17, he was the youngest playing competing nationally in the Continental Basketball Association.  In five seasons with the Marlins, he won two North Conference Championships and was a member of the team which brought Cairns its first ever National Continental Basketball Association Championship. Sione Fa’Aoso

Sione is a very proud Island man, being of Torres Strait, Saibai Islander and Tongan heritage.  Sione was raised in Seisia, a small community in the NPA (Northern Peninsula Area), which is located near the tip of Australia.

His grandparents and parents taught many life values to acknowledge both cultural lore and contemporary law at a very young age. A strong part of Sione’s character is to respect himself, his family, friends and his culture, being of the Samu (Cassowary) and Koedal (Crocodile) clan from Saibai Island.  Read More>>>>

Nikki Kirk
Nikki was born and raised on Thursday Island in the Torres Strait.  At the age of 13 she earned a scholarship to attend St. Patrick's College in Townsville. At St. Patrick’s she excelled in both the classroom and on the sporting field.  Nikki represented Queensland in Touch Football, Athletics, Softball, Water Polo and Swimming. Read More >>>>
